Earlier 1999 News

July 29th, 1999

The new album has as working title A Different Beat and is scheduled for release on September 27th through Castle Records. Remember that such information usually changes rapidly, so don't hold me to it. (Thank you Carlos for the info.) Informed sources (Hi Stephen!) report that everyone's been very tight-lipped about the style of the album.

GAZ #22 came out yesterday. Check out Ole-Johann's website.

There are only two confirmed concert dates for August:

5 August 1999 Danmarks Smukkeste Festival, Skanderborg, Denmark.
7 August 1999 Drøbak Blues Festival, Norway. (Thanks to Arve for the url)

More dates are likely to be announced after the new album is released in the Fall.

Gary Husband has an official website with a biography, a partial discography, and other goodies. Among his many projects, he has been working on Gary Moore's new album.

Japanese fans will be happy to hear there is a Gary Moore site for them, all in Japanese. Check it out.

I received my copy of the new release of Don Airey's K2 today and I'm confused... Cataloguing this one in my collection might pose a problem. This thing has no reference number! The tracks are:

K2 Overture / Sea of Dreams Part I / Sea of Dreams Part II / Voice of the Mountain / Song for Al (Instrumental) / Balti Lament / Ascent to Camp 4 / Can't Make up your Mind / Summit Push / Close to the Sky / Blues for J.T. / Julie (If You Leave Me) / Death Zone - Whiteout / Song for Al (Vocal) / Take Me Home

This is exactly as previous releases, except for the bonus track (Take Me Home).

A few new shows to announce this time, all in Europe and Scandinavia of course.

10 July 1999 North Sea Jazz Festival, The Hague, Holland.
5 August 1999 Danmarks Smukkeste Festival, Skanderborg, Denmark.
7 August 1999 Drøbak Blues Festival, Norway.

I could not find any internet reference to the last entry, but the info came from Norway. (For one thing, it is on the GAZ web page.) Thanks to Louise, Jeroen, Marcel, Remco, Dave, and Morten. If you hear of other gigs, please let me know.

The long-awaited Thin Lizzy box set The Vagabond King will be released in September. You read more about it (and look at a couple of images) on Squirrel's Thin Lizzy Page.

Virgin Records Sweden is at it again! According to The Northern Light, a limited-edition double CD titled Blood of Emeralds - The Very Best Of 2 is to be released on 23 August 1999.

Don Airey's K2 - Tales of Triumph and Tragedy was recently re-released. It is available exclusively from 121 Music.

Things were pretty quiet on the Gary Moore front until I got this email today:

I dont know if it is of any interest to you or this site but Gary Moore is appearing at a 1 day festival called Chelsea Blues, in London, u.k. on Saturday 5 June. Tickets are available from the Ashburnham Community Centre, Tetcott Road, SW10. The event is happening at Tectcott Road Adventure playground from 12 noon-11pm nearest tube is Fulham Broadway.

I was not able to find any on-line confirmation. Anyone with more information (or a review of the show) is encouraged to share.

While I'm at it, I should add that Colosseum II's Strange New Flesh has been released again on CD (Essential ESM CD 710). A very short review can be found in the June issue of Record Collector.
